Berlin calling: Workshops at the Maker Store

I would like to tell you a little more about what we do in our workshops at the Maker Store in Berlin.

The idea behind it is that we would like to introduce children, youths and adults to the fields of programming, electronics, robotics and soldering. Our focus is having fun while learning something new. We don’t want to replace or continue teaching units like those at school but we would like to show how exciting electronics can be and how useful it can be to know about it in everyday life. You will learn that a capacitor functions like a battery or an accumulator, that you need a potentiometer, for example, to dim the light and you will know about what a transistor and an amplifier have in common.

You will be building your own robot and learning about its electronics in our robotic workshop. Once you managed to build up the mBot we will introduce you to the field of coding with Scratch, a very intuitive graphic programming language that is ideally suited for beginners. The workshop’s aim is to have participants teach their robots how to follow a specified line. Via an app, you will also be able to control the robot with your smartphone. Learning coding with robots is already part of the American school system  – and I am pretty sure that it won’t take long until it will be integrated in German computer science lessons as well.

In our coding workshop, we will introduce you to digital electronics and coding with microcontrollers. We will let it blink with the help of LEDs and buttons and will be working with A/D converters, I2C bus, relays and OLEDs. This workshop is suitable for those of you who already have a little experience with the Arduino.
